Pola Bear (Imitta) adopted from MaeBachur March 2006
Pure Bread Mutts Rock!
Pola Bear, the sultry eyed beauty was approx. 2 yrs old when she was adopted adding her to my family of strays. Adopting a dog who is older and untrained does have its benefits. Older dogs are generally calmer, grateful to have a home, loyal, less distracted therefore easier to train. I wish to bust the myth that "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" because I have.
My first dog Foxy a neglected 3 yr old stray, won 1st place in training class and dog agility class. O.k., Foxy is part cattledog but Pola, a blend of black lab and husky, was also a quick learner. Both were outdoor dogs and made a smooth transition to house dogs the day they arrived without leaving a path of destruction! As most of you know, training teaches people how to work with your dog so if you adopt a true stray, there may be no bad habits to break and you start from fresh. In fact, Pola Bear is so well behaved that she now has a job… dog therapeutic visits at Copper Ridge Place. She loves it but most importantly, the residents love her!
