Humane Society Yukon (HSY) is seeking an enthusiastic, motivational team-builder with exceptional senior leadership skills and experience to lead the implementation of the current Strategic Plan. The plan is guided by the vision of a compassionate, caring community where the safety and well-being of animals is valued and protected.
The ideal candidate is a proven partnership-builder with significant senior leadership experience and demonstrated success in collaborating with diverse stakeholders to accomplish strategic goals. Exemplary people skills, financial management capability, and operational management experience are a must.
HSY, as the leading animal welfare organization in the territory, provides services to hundreds of animals in distress each year. Our mission is to protect and enhance the quality of life for domestic animals, provide a safe, warm, and compassionate space for animals in need, and to promote responsible and ethical pet ownership.
The Executive Director will:
- Provide visionary leadership, supervision, and management to drive the execution of HSY’s strategic plan.
- Provide strategic and administrative support to the Board of Directors in carrying out its governance responsibilities.
- Foster a culture of best practices to prioritize the health, well-being, and adoption of all shelter animals.
- Develop and implement public education initiatives to build community trust and confidence in HSY’s mission and operations.
- Mentor, lead, and supervise staff and volunteers in delivering the strategic plan.
- Work in conjunction with the Board and HSY Board Treasurer to maintain financial responsibility, accurate and timely financial reporting, and overall fiscal accountability of the organization.
- Deliver successful revenue generation campaigns that contribute to the financial health of the Society and raise the profile of the organization with the public, governments, and funders.
- Create and execute a comprehensive communication strategy to effectively engage and inform HSY staff, members, sponsors, donors, volunteers, and the broader public.
Working Conditions
- Flexible working hours based on 40 hours per week.
- Rate of Pay: $80,000 per annum.
- Leave, sick days, and other benefits are in accordance with the Yukon Employment Standards Act.
- The office is located at the Humane Society Yukon, Mae Bachur Animal Shelter, at 126 Tlingit Street, Whitehorse.
- The Executive Director is expected to spend the majority of time in the office; however, flexible work arrangements may be approved by the Board.

Humane Society Yukon (HSY) is seeking an enthusiastic, motivational middle-manager with exceptional communication and people skills to direct and guide staff and volunteers in providing excellent care to all animals at the Shelter while they await adoption.
The ideal candidate has a deep commitment to and passion for animal welfare, with a demonstrated understanding of optimal care for the health and well-being of domestic animals. Strong communication, leadership, and motivational skills, combined with conflict resolution and management expertise, are critical assets.

The Kennel Manager will:
- Foster a culture of best practices to prioritize the health, well-being, and adoption of all shelter animals.
- Manage staff through consistent supervision, timely feedback, detailed work plans, and completion of probationary and annual performance reviews.
- Create and maintain a healthy and safe shelter that prioritizes the physical and emotional health of all animals in the space.
- Perform and document daily assessments of animal physical and mental health and well-being.
- Ensure staff and volunteers receive orientation and comply with occupational health and safety requirements.
- Implement best practices in animal shelter kennel/cage/grounds maintenance, including daily and scheduled cleaning procedures.
- Liaise respectfully with the public regarding adoptions, animal health, and history, including recommendations and access to education on the care and training of adopted animals.
