Meet Charlie,
Charlie and Missy will be going into their 5th month at the shelter.
We have had zero interest in adopting them together. We have reached out to try and find them a foster together, but again had no interest. We did however have a foster home reach out interested in fostering Missy.
After much discussions and consideration, we decided that trying Missy in a foster without Charlie would be a good choice, it would give us a chance to truly see how she did without Charlie. And how Charlie did without her. Charlie did not seem bothered by her being gone and his dog reactivity at the shelter has actually improved.
We are now confident in our decision to offer them for adoption seperately. Charlie is a 6yr old male husky cross. He is a lovely, happy affectionate boy, but he does have some specific needs when it comes to finding him his perfect home.
Charlie is dog reactive, and while we know he can live with other dogs, it would likely have to be a very particular dog with a long introduction, for this reason we feel he should be in a only dog home. His reactivity has calmed down somewhat since Missy has been gone, but its still there.
He is good to walk, and enjoys long hikes and runs, but I would say he may always need to on leash or a longline. He can be reactive to dogs passing him on the trail but he is controllable and easily redirected. We know he lived with a cat in a past life, so he may be fine with them again with proper introduction. Charlie needs to be in a home with out kids. He has some body guarding habits around his feed being
handled and he snapped at a child who accidently stepped on his foot. With people that he knows and trusts he is fine for having his feet lifted in and out of a harness and will offer shake a paw. But we think a quiet home where is the single dog would be best.
We would also be happy to find a foster home for Charlie as well. Five months in the shelter is too long.
Lets get this boy a home.
